Kick of for Hedgehog Highways 2025

🦔Kicking off our hedgehog highways project 2025🦔

Hi to all our Thame & Chinnor Ward Hedgehog Street Champions.

I saw my first hedgehog of 2025 out and about last night on the streets of Lea Park.  It was very exciting as last year I saw very few – less even than 2023 !

We need to get going again on trying to get as many residents of Thame and Chinnor to open their gardens up for wildlife – and in particular holes in fences and walls to allow ground dwelling creatures like hedgehogs more space to roam.

If you are champion of your street please do start to strike up conversations with your neighbours and find out if they are hedgehog friendly and if they need anything to make their gardens wilder and full of wildlife.

We would like to invite anyone who might be interested to a get together on Monday 14th April (this Monday coming) at 6pm at Racquets Fitness Centre to kick off our activities this year – please do come along and meet us and find out what we can do to help you in your street.

We have been running the hedgehog highways and thame wild gardens projects for a couple of years now – much thanks to BP Collins for their direct support of all our hedgehog projects.

We love having new ideas on how to influence residents to change the way they garden and new blood to help with some of the activities that we already would like to get going with.

We’re hoping to have stalls at as many school fetes as we can, as well as at most of the Thame community events – this takes us having as many people as possible joining in who are willing to chat to the visitors and help them understand that an untidy garden is so much less work than a tidy one and so much better for our precious wildlife !!!!

We’re also going to arranging some workshops to make wildlife habitats like hedgehog houses, bug hotels and hopefully various different bird boxes.  We will have some community days for these which you may be able to get involved in.

We hope that you will join us on Monday evening.  Please email [email protected] if you can come.   This project is a collaboration between Chinnor & Thame Friends of the Earth and 21st Century Thame.
