Thame Business Green Spotlight – Jess Turner Designs

We met with Jessica from Jessica Turner Designs who design and make Sustainable Wedding Dresses.

Jess says ‘we want to create pieces you can wear beyond your wedding day.’

As well as sourcing fabric and materials from ethical sources Jess offers after wedding services like dip-dying the dress after the wedding to transform it into a dress you can wear on any other occasion. Or they can make alterations and transform your beautiful dress into an astounding pair of trousers.

The wedding industry is notorious for it’s wasteful, harmful and polluting processes. By creating bespoke dresses that can be worn again, they don’t overproduce, they are recycling, and their dresses are made from environmentally friendly materials.

Jess has a blog on her website where she is keeping us up-to-date with her sustainable journey – you can read it here.

The Thame Business Initiative is a 21st Century Thame project started January 2023).

It’s aim is to engage businesses in the sustainability discussion in 3 ways :

  • to showcase what they are already doing and what they are aiming to do,
  • to encourage their employees to be involved in local sustainability initiatives and
  • to encourage the business to help fund projects being run by the community.

The project has initially been funded by SODC via a South Oxfordshire District Council Councillor Grant 2023.

Lightfoots Solicitors have kindly supported this project to enable us to continue the work further into 2023.
