Leading up to Hogfest, the Scouts were hard at work designing and constructing Bug Hotels. The results were highly impressive, and the groups thoroughly enjoyed the building process.

21st Century Thame ran two workshops, where the Scouts worked in a group of three. Their impressive skills demonstrated true craftmenship, creative flare and team work. The children were able to use pillar drills, electric cordless drills and saws. It was a pleasure to see them being so inspired and all of them having fun making the holes for the bugs to live in!

The bug hotels were of all shapes and sizes, and the designs were then on display at our Hogfest event- a festival dedicated to Hedgehogs. So why Bug hotels? The bug hotels were sold at auction at the evening event where Hugh Warwick (a hedgehog loving ecologist) was giving a talk and all the proceeds were donated to the nature recovery of Thame. All the Bug Hotels found new homes, and 21st Century Thame hopes they’ll soon appear in gardens and green corners across Thame. With luck, bugs will quickly move in and bring even more insect visitors—providing a perfect meal for the local hedgehogs!

We want to thank all our sponsors Lucy Electric, BP Collins and Lightfoot Solicitors, so things like this can happen in and around Thame to help restore nature and other environmental topics!
