Habitat building project

The environmental groups of 21st Century Thame are embarking on a project to build as many wildlife habitats as possible and then distribute these in as many suitable places in the locality around Thame including Chinnor, Long Crendon, Haddenham etc.

We’ve been building Hedgehog Houses for the last 2 years. With the involvement of many volunteers we obtain suitable wood (heat treated not chemical treated), cut this wood to size, invite businesses or local organisations or anyone really to visit one of our volunteer’s workshops to build loads of Hedgehog Houses. People with no experience of using a screwdriver or a hammer have been enjoying the pleasure of putting these together.

We have an already oversubscribed business workshop taking place at the beginning of October and we are really looking forward to that.

If you would like to do any of these things please do get in touch :

  1. Join a workshop
  2. Build habitats in your own home
  3. Have a garden which might be suitable for a habitat house
  4. Help with finding homes for the newly build habitats
  5. Cut wood to size ready for a workshop
  6. Create a design for habitats other than hedgehog houses which will work as kits for workshops
  7. Connect with organisations who might have land suitable for habitat boxes

Please do just get in touch so we can get habitat boxes out to give creatures a home – but also to engage organisations and individuals in the conversation that we need to help wildlife !
