Look out for underweight hedgehogs – what to do

Two very small Thame hoglets have been rescued and taken to Tiggywinkles.

Pudding last week and Doris this week.

If you see a tiny hedgehog and gauge that it weighs less than a tin of tomatoes (450g) it is likely to struggle to survive winter – best to ring Tiggywinkles to check, popping it briefly in a box lined with a towel to keep it warm whilst you phone for advice. It is very stressful for them to be handled so only pick one up if it is unusually small or acting oddly and needs help. If you find a hedgehog out in the day now, it’s almost certainly ill and needs a check-up.
